Oldsmar

Oldsmar sits at the northeastern edge of Pinellas County on Old Tampa Bay, founded in 1916 by automobile pioneer Ransom E. Olds, who bought roughly 37,000 acres here to build a planned town he first called R. E. Olds-on-the-Bay. The name went through a couple of changes over the following decades before settling permanently on Oldsmar in 1937, and a handful of buildings from that original era, including a 1918 Mediterranean Revival bank building, are still standing downtown.

The city sits along about ten miles of Old Tampa Bay shoreline, and R.E. Olds Park gives residents public dock access to the water even without owning waterfront property. Tampa Road and the nearby Veterans Expressway put Tampa International Airport and downtown Tampa within easy reach, which has made Oldsmar a practical alternative to the more built-up parts of Pinellas County for buyers who still want bay access and a short commute.
